Information Awareness cards arrive

We are pleased to have received 10,000 awareness cards from Be Child Cancer Aware (www.bechildcanceraware.org) to begin sending out to schools in Northamptonshire and really do appreciate the charity supporting us with this donation. We have a long way to go and it seems what started out as a small project is getting bigger by the day as we realise just how little awareness there is within the county. Already it is becoming evident that this won't be solved in a year but is something that is going to need to be kept on top of and reviewed once initial contact has been made with the 300+ schools, 50 children's centres and 80+ GP surgeries. We understand that, for whatever reason, not every place we contact will want to be involved but we hope most do. Last week the awareness conversation with a school head teacher led us to be able to offer support to another family in the area. At the end of the day we are doing this because as parents we never knew the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer until we found ourselves on an oncology ward. The most simple and most important reason for doing this is awareness can mean a quicker diagnosis and treatment. If your school or place of work wishes to be involved in our campaign please email Karen at: alfescause@hotmail.co.uk. Thank you.
